I am Ready for the World!

When I signed up for this class, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into! And to make things more interesting this was my first class in my whole four and a half years that was on Friday! Surprisingly, I learned a lot from this class and will be taking some of the concepts with me once I graduate.

We learned about media and advertisements and where everything started. I was intrigued to learn how big media actually is. We learned much more, like thinking through things, pitching to companies, figuring out audiences, how to make money though our start ups and much more.

Then it was all the amazingness followed after.

When Amy told us that we were coming up with up with out own start ups, I was nervous because this was something I’ve never even thought about doing. All that could go through my mind was how hard it was going to be.

Luckily I ended up working with someone who already had a product to enhance. Since we already had a product, you would think things were easy…. Well that was not the case.

If anything it was more difficult because we had to tell people why our product was interesting and why its worth consuming. It was hard at first because we had to learn what the product was all about compared to everyone else who collectively came up with an Idea.

Normally in classes the teachers throw a group assignment in at the end of the semester and it something quick and painless. But with this class it was a whole different story. This class really taught me about patience and working with a group effectively. This was a class where you had to meet with each other on the regular to get things done — and it always wasn’t a walk in the park.

You quickly see that everyone’s personality is different and you all have to come together to work on what you want to be great. The biggest thing I would take from it is that we had to really think things through. No matter how much we thought we had it figured out, we didn’t. And Amy made sure to challenge us on that. I will take that with me because the more you analyze and pick at something the better you will understand it so that you can create something amazing.

I enjoyed the readings we were given. Especially the podcast about Bleacher Report and The Skimm. I love hearing how people created businesses from ideas that were way out of the box. I want to do something similar but I have always thought it couldn’t work due to it not being “normal” enough. Hearing their stories have showed me and my teammates that you have to believe in your ideas because they are worth bringing to life and working on. It is normally those ideas that will show whatever industry you are here and mean business.

Our Detroit trip also really inspired me to go for every thing I want in life!

Now…. I think entrepreneurship is awesome! It may be a pain in the butt, but it’s cool. I always look at it as people turning their passions into a job that best fits them and even other individuals.

Will I start something of my own???? That is to be determined! I do think about it from time to time, but I just know I have to really be committed to it when I start. So, for me, the first step is to figure out what I am truly passionate then figuring out a way to turn it into a brand and business.

I truly enjoyed taking this class because it was a challenge. Whatever career path I choose I think the tools and skills I learned in this class will help me stand out and bring ideas to life.

I want to thank my group for the memories and Amy for being a wonderful instructor! I am graduating on Friday, May 4and I am excited to start the life I am passionate about.
